Scope and Who We Are
This Privacy Policy applies to PreppingDeals.net and the deal pages, forms, ratings, comments, feeds, alerts, and related services we provide (collectively, the “Site”). The operator of PreppingDeals.net is responsible for the Site’s handling of personal information. Questions and privacy requests may be sent to admin@preppingdeals.net.
This policy does not govern a retailer, affiliate network, social network, or other third-party service you visit from the Site. Their policies apply when you use their services.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Contact messages: the name, email address, or other identifier you choose to provide and the contents of your message.
- Deal submissions: an optional name, submitted links, coupon codes, descriptions, and other information you include.
- Newsletter signups: your email address and related subscription preferences, which our website securely submits to Moosend. We also use limited request information to prevent signup abuse.
- Comments: the comment, display information, and other details you submit through FastComments.
- Deal interactions: ratings, expired-deal reports, and the deal associated with each interaction.
Information collected automatically
- Request and device information: IP address, browser or device type, user agent, referring page, requested page, timestamps, approximate location inferred from IP address, and security or diagnostic information received by the Site and its infrastructure providers.
- Anti-abuse identifiers: the Site combines IP address and user-agent information and stores the result as a one-way hash to rate-limit forms, deal ratings, deal reports, and similar features. The Site does not store the raw IP address in its application database for this purpose, although infrastructure providers may process it in their logs.
- Cookies and browser storage: a random voting identifier, theme preference, recent-visit information used for “new deal” presentation, and session-level confirmation that an expired deal was already reported.
- Usage information: pages viewed, links or features used, and aggregate traffic or performance measurements when analytics are enabled.
How We Use Information
- Operate, deliver, maintain, troubleshoot, and secure the Site.
- Display and manage deal ratings, comments, reports, and community features.
- Detect spam, duplicate voting, abuse, malicious activity, and violations of our Terms.
- Respond to messages, review deal submissions, and provide credit when requested.
- Send communications you request, including newsletters and deal alerts.
- Measure performance and understand aggregate use so we can improve the Site.
- Maintain records, establish or defend legal claims, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information for money or load advertising pixels from Google, Microsoft, or Meta on the Site. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about visitors.
Cookies and Local Storage
The Site uses a first-party pd_voter_v2 cookie containing a random identifier so a browser can retrieve and change its own deal ratings and so we can discourage duplicate voting. It is marked HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax, is marked Secure over HTTPS, and is configured to last for up to one year.
Browser local storage may remember your light or dark theme and limited visit information used to present recently added deals. Session storage may remember that you reported a deal during the current browser session. You can clear cookies and site storage through your browser, but doing so may reset preferences and rating state.
FastComments may use functional cookies to support its comment features, such as login. Fathom Analytics does not use analytics cookies. Our previous advertising-consent preference is no longer used.
Retailers and affiliate networks may set their own cookies or similar identifiers after you follow a link to their services. We do not control those technologies.
Service Providers and Other Recipients
We disclose information only as reasonably necessary to operate the Site, carry out your requests, protect rights and security, complete a business transition, or comply with law. Service-provider categories may include:
- Website infrastructure and security providers: hosting, content delivery, request processing, security, application database storage, rate limiting, and transactional email delivery.
- Content-management and storage providers: storage and management of published deal content.
- Comment and community providers: comment display, comment counts, moderation, and information visitors provide when commenting.
- Newsletter and email providers: newsletter signup, subscriber management, requested communications, and email delivery. Newsletter forms may send your email address directly to an email provider.
- Analytics providers: aggregate website traffic, usage, and performance measurements when analytics are enabled.
- Workflow-automation providers: processing information needed for configured internal workflows, such as public deal feeds or preparation of communications.
- Retailers and affiliate networks: the destination URL, affiliate identifier, ordinary web-request information, and any information you provide to them after following a deal link.
We may also disclose information to professional advisers, regulators, courts, law enforcement, or another organization involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of the Site, when permitted or required by law.
Website Analytics
We use Fathom Analytics to measure page visits and use of features such as deal links, social links, newsletter signup forms, and browsing depth. Fathom does not use analytics cookies. Our analytics events do not include newsletter email addresses, contact messages, or comment text.
An event labeled “Email Signups” records a signup-form submission or a signup-link click, not a confirmed subscription. An affiliate-link click does not tell us whether you bought a product.
Advertising and Campaign Measurement
We may run ads on services such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta. Those services may measure clicks and other interactions with ads on their own platforms under their privacy policies. Our ad links may include campaign parameters so Fathom can report aggregate visits and Site interactions associated with a campaign. The Site does not load those platforms’ advertising pixels or send them on-Site conversion events.
Affiliate Links and External Services
Some outbound links contain identifiers that allow a retailer or affiliate network to attribute a purchase to PreppingDeals. When you follow such a link, the destination may receive your IP address, browser information, referring information, the link identifier, and information about activity or purchases on its service. The third party decides how it processes that information under its own privacy policy.
Ordinary links to Telegram, Facebook, X, Instagram, Discord, retailers, and other services do not transmit information to those services merely because the link is displayed. Information is ordinarily sent when you choose to follow the link. Embedded third-party features such as FastComments receive request information when they load.
Legal Bases for Processing
Where the laws of the EEA, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction require a legal basis, we rely on:
- Your consent for optional communications or other processing where consent is requested. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Performance of a request or agreement when you ask us to send communications, respond to a message, or process a submission.
- Legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and understanding the Site; preventing fraud and abuse; publishing useful deal information; and protecting our visitors and rights, balanced against your interests and rights.
- Legal obligations when processing is necessary to comply with applicable law or valid legal process.
Retention
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including providing requested services, maintaining security and transaction records, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations.
- Rate-limit records are associated with short anti-abuse windows and may be retained longer for security, troubleshooting, backup, or abuse-prevention needs.
- Voting records and the related random identifier may remain while the rating feature or relevant deal record is maintained; the browser cookie is configured for up to one year.
- Contact messages and deal submissions may be retained while they are reviewed and for a reasonable period afterward for records, follow-up, abuse prevention, or legal purposes.
- Comments remain until removed by the commenter, a moderator, FastComments, or PreppingDeals, subject to backups and legal requirements.
- Newsletter information is managed by Moosend. Unsubscribing stops newsletter delivery; limited unsubscribe and bounce records may be retained to prevent unwanted email.
Retention periods may be extended when reasonably necessary for security incidents, legal claims, regulatory requirements, or valid preservation requests.
Your Choices and Privacy Rights
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any such email. You may disable or clear cookies and browser storage through your browser. You may choose not to comment, vote, submit a deal, or use a form.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of personal information; to object to or restrict processing; to withdraw consent; and to appeal a denied request. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
Submit a request to admin@preppingdeals.net. Describe the request and the feature or information involved. We may need to verify your identity and authority before completing it. We may retain information necessary to document the request or when an exception under applicable law applies.
International Processing
PreppingDeals and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, providers use approved contractual or other safeguards for international transfers.
Children’s Privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 submitted personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information, including restricted service credentials, hashed anti-abuse identifiers, same-origin form checks, rate limits, and secure transport. No website, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when the Site, our providers, or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice or request consent when required by law.
